Any big plans for the weekend? Maybe hang out and shoot some pool? I’ve got an opera performance tomorrow night and a couple of other gigs. I’d rather not do the other gigs; it’s been a long week. But money.

Swim meet tomorrow morning. I have to be in Rockwall at 7:30 am. It’s a half hour drive.

Some critics are always looking for the next Citizen Kane, others do a good job pointing out weak points in a film (or strong points). I take it all with a grain of salt.

Otello, by Verdi. It’s a fantastic score, with lots of big orchestra playing. Unfortunately, this is a concert performance, so there are no sets or costumes. Just the singers on stage with the orchestra and chorus. On the one hand, it allows the audience to really focus on the singing, and the orchestra sounds much better on stage and out of the pit. On the other hand, it’s a tad boring with no sets, props, or costumes. But it’s a tight budget year, and they company saves tons of money this way.

I’ve done almost nothing but concert versions for a couple years, it makes my life a little easier to juggle when I don’t have to learn blocking or memorize as much music . But it does get old, and I'm looking to do something fully staged next year.
